Sneaux Much Fun in NOLA!
It snowed yesterday in New Orleans, and while the city has seen snow before—though it’s rare—this was unlike anything I’ve experienced in Southeast Louisiana in my lifetime.
The last really good snow I remember was Christmas 2004. It came down beautifully but didn’t stick on the ground for long. This time? The snow came down with gusty winds, stuck immediately, and continued nonstop for eight hours straight. Even today, with temperatures below 30°F, the snow feels fluffy—like cold, powdered sugar. Icicles are dangling from rooftops, and the city feels like a familiar but strange place. I honestly can’t remember snow on the ground lasting more than a few hours here!
And you know what? I LIKE IT.
It’s such a rare occurrence that I’m now wondering: Should I bag some of this snow before it melts to savor the memories? I mean, it’s not every day you can open your freezer and relive a New Orleans winter wonderland!
Looking out at the snow-covered rooftops, I couldn’t help but think: Give me some SHUGAH baby like a freshly fried beignet. It’s like Mother Nature brought a little Café du Monde to my backyard.
As I soak in this magical moment, I’m dogging icicle daggers falling from my rooftop as the sun melts them away while those on the back side of my home that gets no sun is still in tack.

This rare snowfall has me reminiscing about 2004, but honestly, this one feels different. It’s almost as if the snow is here to remind us to feed the innocent dreams of our inner child and savor life’s surprises—even if it means trading our kings cake icing for gloves and scarves for a day.
As I type this, the snow is still holding its ground, and I can’t help but feel like a kid again. Maybe I will bag a little bit after all. My freezer could use a touch of winter magic for the Mardi Gras season!
